Dubai: Dubai residency department investigation teams arrested a gang of four men, along with 18 absconded domestic helpers, for working illegally in the country.
Major General Mohammad Ahmad Al Merri, Director General of the General Directorate for Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA), told Gulf News yesterday that in the first five months of this year the department arrested 5,552 illegals who violated the residency law.
He said the investigation team followed an Asian woman suspect leading to the arrest of the four-meber gang who helped domestic helpers to abscond from their sponsors and to work illegally in the country.
Sixteen of the 18 domestic helpers were Asian and two were Ethiopian, Major General Al Merri said.

Major General Al Merri said the arrests were part of the GDRFA's efforts to keep the country safe and secure. "They were all arrested in 106 raids against illegals which the investigation section conducted in 31 areas in Dubai, including five campaigns in cooperation with the Municipality," he said.
